Which video card do you think is best? Anything supporting your position would be good too. And we're talking comparible cards here. Not the worst ATI vs. the Best GeForce or vice versa.

Well right now it seems that the Radeon's have jumped waaaay ahead with the 9700 series. I used to be a diehard Voodoo man myself, but after they went under I had to choose a side.
Geforce was the standard then.
Now though, my next card will be one of those Radeon 9700, and since Nvidia had that whole controversy about cheating on benchmarks...(?) There you go. *laughs*

Radeon's are the best! Most if not all radeon cards have high CPU clock speeds then there Geforce counterparts. Ofcurse Radeons are more expensive than Geforce cards, but thats cause they out perform them. Also Radeon cards have a higher fill rate in the billions instead of in the millions as with Geforce cards. Radeons however, did have some compatiblilty issues in the past, but that has been fixed with their catyist drivers which made the Radeons much more stable. I also noticed as I was doing some research on the video cards that there are about ten different manufactures of the Geforce cards, which made it very difficult to pinpoint their best model. However I did find out that Asuse makes Geforce cards! Therefore if you still think Geforce cards are better than Radeons I can only recommend an Asuse card because they are the only one’s out of all the manufactures that show any quality in there cards.

Didn't the Geforce NV have heat problems and was eventually killed?
Had this honking fan on it...

Not sure what happed to them. I do know that all the new Geforce cards have massive cooling fans on them. The one i looked up took up to slots in your computer. The top was to the connections to your monitor and the bottom was a massive air-inlet. Looks really cool. The Asuse one is gold in cool and has a see through fan. :P

Yeah, that was it....I could have sworn it was axed. The heat that thing gave off was ridiculous.
Course...nothing compares to the Voodoo 5000 64 MB card...heheh...my case got so hot, it could cook an egg.

BTW...
i'm looking at buying a new card soon. Any opinions on companies. I'm surprised how many companies are throwing out Radeons...does the manufacturer make much difference?
The chipset is the core, that's what counts right?

No no sorry, i ment that a bunch of diffrent companys make Geforce cards. Only Radeon makes the Radeon cards.

I think the brand is just something they put on the package. My monitor says Dell, but I doubt that Dell actually made it.

I dunno though cause if you look at the Asuse card and the MSI card they look enterily diffrent even though they have almost the same specs. You could be right though steve, because then why else are they all called Geforce cards, and why is Nevida on each box. At any rate, the power lies in your hands captin steve. Only you can make the right dicision.
get a radeon.

So which would be better for actual applications, a Radeon 7000 in a PCI slot or a Rage Pro in an AGP slot?

I like to just upgrade, but at this point cash flow doesn't allow. Personally I think the Geforce is a better deal and has a lot more options since it isn't strickly game oriented.
