Apparently there's a real disease that causes you to want to eat shiny stuff.
A 62 year old man was admitted to Cholet General Hospital in France with a stomach complaint and when doctors operated on him they found 350 coins, necklaces and needles inside him.
The money and other items collectively weighed 5.4 kilograms, the same as a bowling ball and pushed his stomach downwards in between his hips. The man died 12 days after the operation because of complications.
He had a history of eating money and was diagnosed with a rare condition known as 'pica', which is Latin for magpie. Similar sufferers have been known to eat forks, as well as dirt, ashes, chalk, hair, soap, toothbrushes and burned matches.
